Steps to Becoming a Real Estate Agent
The program comprises 3 steps
All salespersons and brokers in Ontario must be registered with the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO).
Completing RECO's Real Estate Salesperson Program, delivered by Humber College, is the first step in starting your real estate career in Ontario.
Step 1:

Pre-Registration Phrase
Begin your journey by completing the Real Estate Salesperson Program, delivered by Humber College and required by the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO).
This must be completed within 24 months.

This step is roughly 150 hours worth of work depending on how quickly you are able to understand and process the information.
The courses include:

Real Estate Essentials, Residential Real Estate Transactions (2 courses), Commercial Real Estate Transactions, and Getting Started.
You must successfully pass (75%) an exam after the first 4 courses before moving on to the next course.
Step 2:

Choose a Brokerage
& Register with RECO
The next crucial step is selecting a real estate brokerage and registering with the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO). Follow these key steps to launch your career:
Research and explore various real estate brokerages to find the one that aligns with your career goals and values. Consider factors such as brokerage size, culture, training programs, commission structures, and available support.​
Once you've chosen a brokerage, the next step is to secure employment with them. It's essential to be employed by a registered Ontario real estate brokerage to become eligible for registration with RECO.
Step 3:

Post-Registration Phase
Complete the Post-Registration Phase to renew your registration at the end of the initial two-year cycle with RECO. This involves two elective courses and a mandatory Compliance course.
